ほんの一週間くらい前まで，ATOM Cam 2<\/a>の発するReal Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP)をRaspberry Pi 3 Model B (RPi3) および同 B+ (RPi3+)のVLCによる動画視聴が非常に安定していて， “Production Level” だと喜んでいました．<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ところが，ここ数日安定しません．VLCはsystemdによる自動起動でも手動で起動しても，起動時に出た映像がstillのままで進みません．<\/p>\n\n\n\n

何回かに1度動画が動きますが，数時間でstillになります．<\/p>\n\n\n\n

最初は，RTSP再生用に使用しているRPi3(+)が性能的に限界に来たのかなと思い，Raspberry Pi 4 Model B (RPi4)で試しましたが同じです．また，わが家の現在の最高性能のCPUを持つPCの一つであるM4 Mac mini<\/a>で試しても同じです．<\/p>\n\n\n

あきらかに，これはRPi3(+)の性能が悪いからではないです．となるとRTPSの送信側ATOM Cam 2に問題があるかなと思いました．そう言えばATOM Cam 2もわりと最近firmwareのupdateがありました．<\/p>\n\n\n\n

それでfirmwareを一つ前のにしてみようか．以前もやったことがあるけどめんどうなのではなかったかな．と考えているうちに思い当たりました．「VLCの最新バージョンに問題があるのではないか」と．<\/p>\n\n\n\n

そう，プラットフォームやOSの違いがあれど，どれも最新版のVLCを使っていることには違いがないです．<\/p>\n\n\n\n

RPi3, RPi3+とも2月下旬にまるまるバックアップしてありました1<\/a><\/sup>．そこでSDカードの内容をその2月下旬にしてみたところ，VLCは自動起動でも手動起動でも問題なく起動し，安定してRTSPを再生するようになりました．<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ということで，当分の間apt update && apt upgrade<\/code>は禁止します．<\/p>\n\n\n
