そう言えば，中国本土はホテルのことを「飯店」というのだったと思います．故田中角栄総理大臣が日中国交正常化で招かれてパーティーをしたりとかのニュースで度々聞いて覚えたように思います．<\/p>\n\n\n\n

一方，自分がシンガポールの定宿1<\/a><\/sup>盛ってます😓<\/span>にしていたホテルの英語名は “Summer View Hotel<\/a>” で，漢字名は「日晶酒店」です．たしか，多くのホテルは酒店だったと記憶しています2<\/a><\/sup>ざっとネット検索してもそのようです．<\/span>．<\/p>\n\n\n

面白いのはオーストラリアで， “Hotel” と名乗っていても宿泊施設ではない所が結構あります．シドニー在住時，職場の忘年会的なパーティーが行われたのは自宅近くの “Greengate Hotel<\/a>” でした．とても気に入ったので後で知人がシドニーに泊まるというので宿泊できるか問い合わせたことがあります．答えはノーで，宿泊施設ではないのです．<\/p>\n\n\n\n

あちこちの街を歩いたり車で走りながら気をつけてみると， “… Hotel” があります．私も事情を知らなかったのですが，後に「世界ふしぎ発見」で知りました．<\/p>\n\n\n\n

その昔オーストラリアでは仕事上がりの労働者たちが深酒するのが問題になり，宿泊施設（ホテル）以外での夜の酒の提供が禁止されたそうです．そこで，困った居酒屋が店舗の隅に狭くて実際には人が寝ることができないようなスペースを「宿泊施設」として用意し，店の名前も “… Hotel” と名乗ったそうです．その名残のようです．<\/p>\n\n\n

なんか，江戸時代のぜいたく禁止令に対する庶民の抵抗みたいで面白いです．<\/p>\n\n\n\n
